ESS Overview:
The ESS course (MARSS00008) and practical assessment is a requirement to work on many vessels to ensure you have the correct safety training when onboard.
This ESS is designed to be completed online in a self-paced learning environment. You can complete this course in as little as 3 days when studying full time or 1 week for part-time students. You will be required to complete 1 day of in-person assessing to for the following tasks:
- Sea survival activities that includes swimming for at least 50m
- Boarding, using and rescuing others in a life raft
- Fire safety activates that includes fighting live fires
- Using a distress/handheld flare
An ESS course includes units of competencies that could be used for future pathway studies including general purpose hand, Coxswain 1 or 2.
We are flexible with students where possible and give the opportunity for students to plan ahead. It is important to chose the correct dates for your assessment. To avoid any late change fees, you are required to give us at least 2 weeks notice from your scheduled ESS if you would like to change course dates.

Provided you have completed all of your assessments successfully, you will receive your ESS statement of attainment.
