Coxswain Grade 3 Overview:
There are multiple ways to get a Coxswain grade 3 licence. We offer an easy 1 day course that includes practical boat experience, assessment and sea time. If you do not hold any recreational licence issued by a state or territory in Australia, you will need to complete the Coxswain Grade 3 skillset first.
This course will cover the practical component, assessment component and sea time all on the very same day. Once you finish this course you will qualify for a Coxswain Grade 3. We will also conduct the 1 day sea service as required by AMSA and complete all the relevant practical components for the licence. If you have completed your sea time already, contact us for a discounted price on the course that will include the Assessment and declaration only ($495).
Certification:
You will take the paperwork we give you and all relevant documentation to lodge with Australia Post. This will include your General Boat Licence, Medical Check, Sea time, Coxswain Grade 3 Declaration and First Aid Certificate. Your paperwork will be sent to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) where they will assess your paperwork and issue a licence.
Learning Outcomes:
In the practical component of your course, you will learn the basics of safety on a vessel, how to operate a vessel and the parts of a boat. Our trainers will go through a series of tasks with you that include slow speed manoeuvres, Man Overboard (MOB) simulations, high speed manoeuvres and group activities such as beaching, anchoring and mooring a vessel. You will also learn basic knots and how to dock a vessel.
During the sea time component of your course, we will cover the following subjects:

- Safety Equipment
- Tides
- Collision Regulations
- Navigation Lights
- Navigation Markers

Coxswain Grade 3 Skillset Theory
You can complete your theory course at your own pace. When you have completed your theory course, you will need to book the practical component. You are required to complete your theory component before attending your practical. We recommend students allow 1-2 weeks to complete the self-paced theory component of the course.
