Apply for a general boat
driving licence
Introduction
A general boat licence is required to drive any recreational vessel above 10 knots in NSW. 10 knots is approximately 18.5km/h where most boats are not at planing speed.
To get a general boat licence you will need to:
- Demonstrate practical experience
- Pass the General Boat Licence knowledge test.
The best way to complete the above is through EZ Boating’s one day course that includes practical, theory and test all on the same day. Alternatively, you can fill out your Logbook for 3 seperate trips with someone who’s held a GBL for more than 3 years and you’ll need to study the entire Boating Handbook and pass the test at Service NSW.
However, our trainers at EZ Boating take the hard part out of getting a licence and ensure you are safe, confident and ready to get a licence with our one day course that include the practical, theory and test.
Once you complete your course, you can go to Service NSW to get a licence on the spot and access your licence digitally.
