Marine Radio Licence – LROCP

Marine Radio Licence Overview:

A Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) gives you the qualifications to operate a VHF, HF/MF radio in Australia. This Qualification is essential for boat users going 2 nautical miles out to sea or on long voyages where limited coast stations do not provide coverage. It is mandatory to have a Marine VHF Radio on board your vessel when travelling 2nm out to sea. It is also mandatory to have at least an SROCP licence to operate the radio. When operating a HF/MF radio, it is mandatory to have an LROCP licence.

Certification:

Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency gives you the qualification to operate a VHF, HF/MF radio in Australia. This is an online course where you can do the theory at your own pace and in your own time. We recommend you give at least 5 hours to complete the theory component. Once you complete the online component, you can join one of our marine radio licence courses online to complete your practical component/observation for your LROCP.

The online practical is conducted via zoom. If the available sessions are not suitable for you, we are flexible to book a time for you that works. That could be during the day, before/after business hours and even on weekends. When you finish your online learning, you will be given instructions on how to access your online observation with your instructor through the learning portal.

• VHF equipment and how to communicate at sea
• VHF repeater channels and shore stations
• Distress, urgency and safety calling
• Using DSC systems on a radio
• Power supplies and Watts on a radio
• HF/MF Radio propogation
• Frequencies and their uses on HF/MF radio
• And much more!

The practical component will ensure you are competent in making a call and using a marine radio effectively. You will also have access to a VHF radio simulator to ensure you are competent and confident in using the radio as well as a separate HF/MF radio simulator.
